Effect of resonances on averaging in optimal control applied to space mechanics

Project Leader: Jean-Baptiste Caillau

Project Partners: Inria Sophia Antipolis Méditerranée and Thales Alenia Space

We compute optimal trajectories in space mechanics (minimum time orbit transfer). When taking into account perturbations, one is led to average the system to design a suitable approximation. For perturbations depending on a single fast angle, averaging is standard and embedded in the reference solver of the field developed by Thales Alenia Space (Cannes). In the case of multiphase perturbations, resonances come into play and their role must be analyzed both from the theoretical and algorithmic point of view.
